Nathan Wyburn and Wayne Courtney are two of the cities premiere
socialites, giving you their take on what’s hot in and around Cardiff!
Wyburn: I cannot believe we are in July already, where has 2016 gone? Not long until Christmas!
Wayne: Seriously? You’re one of ‘those people’? Let’s celebrate what we’ve been up to this month first is it Wybz?
Wyburn: Ok ok! There’ve been some incredible acts visiting the city recently! Two of which we got to meet at the Motorpoint Arena, and I got to present pizza portraits to our American superstar Josh Groban and the boys from Busted! They were all so welcoming and chuffed with the art!
Wayne: So cool! Not to forget Rod Stewart in the Cardiff City Stadium & Lionel Richie in Swansea! Two icons of our time and both absolutely stunning shows which I really enjoyed reviewing!
Wyburn: Icons of your time maybe haha! It was an absolute pleasure to host the 65 Roses Ball at City Hall in aid of Cystic Fibrosis! Over £12,000 raised and still counting as we write this I believe! Well done to all involved! On the topic of charity we also helped Pride Cymru in their ‘Search for a Star’ evening at Pulse Cardiff! The winners get to perform on the main stage of Pride this year in Coopers Field on August 13th!
Wayne: So much incredible talent, it really was such a hard one to call, but well done to all the deserving winners and all who took part! The choir Tri Llais were outstanding!! Also this month we are helping the lads at Face 11 fundraise ahead of their 10,000 miles car trip across Europe in a rather lovely (not very safe) car! They’ve been auctioning off sections of the exterior to companies to have stickers and logos plastered over it in aid of Cancer Research Wales, taking parts of Cardiff on the journey with them! It’s called the Mongol Rally Charity event and if you’d like to see more head to Face 11 on social media – best of luck to Matt & Ed with that one!
Wyburn: I have a feeling they aren’t going to have it easy guys so please get donating to the cause, crazy boys! This month has actually been pretty charity packed! We also attended a quiz night hosted by Capital FM’s Matt Lissack for Stay Strong For Ows, and came second! But we did win lots of booze on the raffle so we won in different ways!
Wayne: Indeed we did! Not to forget the Bobath Pirates & Princess’ summer fete! What a lovely day out there with Radio Cardiff and our good buddy Tom Auton singing too! It was Filipino Independence Day this month as well and we love a good party don’t we? So we attended that with some of my good friends from the hospital who are part of the community!
Wyburn: The food OMG, lush! Also in town this month was a fellow BGT buddy, magician Jamie Raven who absolutely rocked St David’s Hall! It was a pleasure to interview and chat with him and see some of his amazing magic up close and personal, what a guy! Wayney boy, did we see you on a BILLBOARD this month?
Wayne: Haha well… You couldn’t miss me! Yes! We were absolutely honoured to have been asked to be two of the faces of the South Wales Echo rebrand called #IAMCARDIFF, which meant we got interviewed for film, print & had our faces plastered over billboards, train stations & phone boxes!
Wyburn: We were getting sent pictures every day, it really was a little surreal but amazing because we really do love this city, and love to celebrate everything within it! Something I was extremely touched by was the vigil held down the bay by Stonewall & Pride Cymru for the victims of the mass shooting in Orlando. The turnout was incredibly heart-warming, the speeches emotional and the message clear. Love will win. Seeing the WMC and the Senedd lit up in rainbow colours alongside many other landmarks around the world was amazing.
Wayne: We also continued our relationship with the wonderful Everyman Theatre who were performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company in the New Theatre! What an amazing combination of talent performing A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and of course we had the new mayor’s first selfie and she loves it! There’s huge exciting shows coming up this summer with Everyman too, so be sure to book tickets now!
