11 employers you never thought would offer apprenticeships!


If you thought that apprenticeships were only offered by small, local businesses then think again. These 11 big names offer apprenticeships in a variety of sectors from locations across Wales.

1 – BBC Cymru Wales

BBC Cymru Wales offers a range of apprenticeships in departments from production and journalism to art, costume design and marketing from bases in Llandaff and Cardiff Bay.

2 – Mercedes-Benz

Fancy working for one of the biggest names in motoring? An apprenticeship with Mercedes-Benz from locations across Wales will teach you how to diagnose, repair and maintain its premium vehicles while also learning valuable customer service skills.


3 – Kelloggs

From its base in Wrexham, Kelloggs offers apprenticeships in food safety and quality to equip applicants with the skills they would need to progress within the company.


4 – Celtic Manor Resort

The five-star Celtic Manor Resort in Newport offers apprenticeships to suit a range of skills and interests across its three hotels, convention centre, spas and health clubs.

5 – Arriva Trains Wales

With Arriva Trains Wales, you could be a part of making sure that 35,000 customer journeys run smoothly each day by overseeing operations, customer communication and performance improvement in the Control Department, or helping to provide an efficient and robust timetable including short-term plans that allow for special events and engineering work in the Planning Department.


6 – Cardiff University

Cardiff University employs apprentices in several of its departments, including HR and college support. Successful applicants would have the opportunity to work for one of the UK’s most prestigious universities, learning the skills needed to build a career within the organisation.

7 – Specsavers

One of the UK’s most well-known opticians, Specsavers offers apprenticeships in its many branches across Wales for aspiring Optical Technicians.


8 – ITV Wales

One of the biggest names in TV, ITV Wales offers varied apprenticeships across its departments including in news, journalism and production from its state-of-the-art production facility in Cardiff Bay.

9 – Volkswagen

This internationally recognised brand offers apprenticeships in several locations across Wales. On an apprenticeship with Volkswagen, you would work towards several on-the-job qualifications to get you started on a career within the company.


10 – The Vale Hotel and Spa

The Vale Resort in the Vale of Glamorgan offers a variety of apprenticeships in different departments across the 4* venue from spa and restaurant to maintenance.

11 – Sidoli Ice Cream

Sidoli, which employs 400 people at its Henfaes Lane headquarters in Welshpool making over 600 dessert products, has a range of apprenticeships on offer including an Apprentice Manufacturing Technician. The role will involve all areas of the manufacturing process including ice cream processing, bakery mixing, baking, production and packaging.
