But if he’s up for a laugh, he’ll enjoy superb stand-up comedy from Miles Jupp (Tues 24 Jan), Stephen K. Amos (Thurs 26 Jan), Richard Herring (Sun 2 Apr) and Omid Djalili (Thurs 11 May).

Simple Minds: Acoustic Live Tuesday 30 May 2017, 7pm Doors

For Mum, how about tickets to dishy culinary favourite Gino D’Acampo (Mon 1 May) on his Italian Escape tour? There’s also pop legend Anastacia (Sun 4 June), and the similarly remarkable voices of Mary Chapin Carpenter (Weds 1 Feb), Camille O’Sullivan (Thurs 23 Mar), and Caro Emerald (Tues 4 Apr). But if she would prefer to have a boogie there are terrific tributes in Soul Legends (Fri 13 Jan) and Rumours of Fleetwood Mac (Weds 25 Jan).

For teenagers, there’s cracking comedy from Lee Nelson (Sun 12 Mar) and Chris Ramsey (Thurs 27 Apr); breathtaking white-knuckle thrills in the Banff Mountain Film Festival (Thurs 30 March) or the gruesomely ghoulish Vampires Rock (Fri 6 Jan) and Circus of Horrors (Weds 22 March).
