9 year old runs marathon to raise money for her local NHS charity

A 9 year old girl from Whitchurch decided she would run a marathon in 10 days to raise money for her local NHS Cardiff & Vale Health Charity and she did it in just 7 runs!

When Elinor Roberts, a pupil at Ysgol Gymraeg Melin Gruffydd finished early from school last month, she had been assigned PE as a homework option, so after a chat and much nagging to her Dad, Aled they decided they would run a marathon before she turned 10 on the 31st December 2020.

Elinor started her challenge on 20th December and completed it on 28th December in just 7 runs.

Elinor, who is a keen runner and participates in junior triathlons, was finding lockdown tough as she is used to being so active.  The marathon challenge gave her the ideal way to keep her fitness up and also to give something back to the NHS by doing some fundraising for Cardiff & Vale Health Charity at the same time.  Both of Elinor’s parents are NHS employees, Mum Suzanne is a GP and Dad Aled is a medical consultant.

Mum Suzanne said: “I am so proud of Elinor, she was really determined that she wanted to do this to give something back to the NHS and nagged her Dad to take part with her.  I can’t believe she completed the challenge in just seven days and has raised nearly £1,000 – she’s a star!”

Elinor has raised almost £1,000 so far, if you’d like to help her reach her target please visit: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/aled-roberts9
