15 Year-Old Welsh Soprano Releases Debut Album ‘Angel’

24/08/2018

15 year-old Welsh schoolgirl Elan Catrin Parry announces the release of her debut album ‘Angel’ – out on the 3rd August 2018 on Decca Records. Elan’s pure, fresh, enchanting vocals are showcased through a mix of songs in both English and Welsh.

Following the release of her single ‘Anfonaf Angel’, Elan is the first female Welsh singer to be exclusively signed to Decca since Katherine Jenkins 15 years ago. Elan has had a whirlwind year, after appearing on ITV’s primetime show ‘This Time Next Year’ she pledged to Davina McCall that in a year she would be signed – now here she is releasing her debut album.

Speaking of the album, Elan says, “Musically it’s a mix of folky songs and classic tunes”. She is bilingual and switches naturally between Welsh and English – both on the album and at home. “I’ve always sung in Welsh and it’s something that comes naturally,” she says of her passion for the language. “It’s my generation’s responsibility now to bring it forward to the next generation.”

Charming and modest, Elan has been competing since the age of four in the traditional Eisteddfod singing competitions.  Last year, Elan was a finalist in her Eisteddfod category, which is where she was spotted by Decca executives and later offered a recording contract.

Elan, who lives with her parents and younger sister, has been in the studio in between studying for her GCSEs. She feels passionately about music education and enjoys playing the piano, clarinet, drums and harp, as well as singing. She also enjoys playing netball and running – even making the Welsh Schools finals of Cross Country.
