The Sephora Takeover: How the ‘Playground of Beauty’ Plans to Bring ‘Welsh Soul’ Into its Opening

On Thursday 23rd October, Sephora will officially open its doors to the Welsh public, marking the first flagship store to land in the UK outside of England. The beauty community is ecstatic and after attending the launch morning for a sneak preview of the store, they have every reason to be.

What Can We Expect?

Pauline Dolle Labbe, CMO of Sephora UK, says shoppers can expect a “unique experience”, one that invites them to explore Sephora’s extensive product range, including exclusive brands, while receiving tailored advice from in-store beauty experts.

Sephora brings together some of the biggest names in beauty, from Haus Labs’ impressive shade ranges to the irresistible scents of Gisou hair perfumes, all finally within reach to Welsh shoppers, minus the shipping costs!

Why Wales?

Pauline describes the store’s arrival as both a “very big milestone” and a “natural step” for the brand, driven by the growing Welsh customer base. The response speaks for itself, with the Cardiff store announcement receiving the highest online engagement of any Sephora opening in the UK.

“Sephora is a global retailer that has similarities across the world but we also want to be locally relevant” — Pauline Dolle Labbe, CMO Sephora UK.

As part of its store launch and promotional campaign, Sephora has made a conscious effort to celebrate Welsh identity. Pauline explained that the brand hosted roundtable sessions to hear directly from the Welsh community, shaping everything from the use of the Welsh language in-store to the showcasing of local talent.

As a nod to local culture, Sephora collaborated with Kin & Ilk, the Welsh-founded coffee brand that provided a stunning breakfast and refreshments for the launch morning.

Final Thoughts

From spending the morning in the store, what really stood out was how immersive the space felt, designed to make beauty playful, accessible and fun. After chatting with the Sephora team, it’s clear their excitement for the Cardiff opening is contagious.

With a weekend packed full of celebration, freebies and events ahead, Sephora at St. David’s Shopping Centre is the place to be!
