Brave volunteers took part in a 200ft abseil down popular city hotel to raise thousands for Tenovus Cancer Care

On Easter weekend, Easter bunnies were out in force to raise vital funds for Tenovus Cancer Care. Over 50 volunteers dressed up as Easter bunnies and descended more than 200ft down the 15 storey, Mercure Holland House Hotel and Spa Cardiff.

The fun yet daunting charity initiative organised by the Challenge Events Team at Tenovus Cancer Care is set to raise over £10,000 and took place over two days on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Mhairi Jones, Challenge Events Manager at Tenovus Cancer Care said: “We are overwhelmed by the support of our brave Easter Abseilers we started advertising for people to sign up months ago and were pleasantly surprised that so many people wanted to get involved! Even the most nervous of our ‘bunnies’ completed the challenge. It was a fantastic family event and a unique experience for people to enjoy this Easter. We are set to raise vital funds for cancer patients and their loved ones and we will no doubt make this inaugural event an annual in our calendar! We can’t thank the staff at the Mercure Holland House Hotel and Spa Cardiff enough for allowing us to organise this unique fundraising opportunity”.

Marisa Morteo, General Manager of the Mercure Holland House Hotel and Spa Cardiff said: “We welcome the opportunity to help charities raise monies, the impressive building lends itself for such activities like abseiling so when Tenovus approached us we were more than happy to support. I can especially appreciate the brave efforts of the ‘Easter bunnies’ as I took the plunge myself two years ago and know how daunting it can be! A big well done to everyone involved.”

The 4-star Mercure Cardiff Holland and House Hotel and Spa is a modern hotel situated in Cardiff City Centre, with 165 bedrooms, 15 fully equipped meeting rooms a restaurant and bar and fully equipped spa.
