Bringing together the Young with the Young at Heart

Primary School children will be welcoming older people from their local communities into school as a new inter-generational project takes off across Wales. It is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Since launching eight years ago the Goldies Cymru Charity have brought songs and smiles to older isolated people across South Wales. These take place in Libraries, community rooms and Church halls and there are now over 60 sessions led by dedicated freelance leaders.

The charity has also had considerable success with primary school linked programmes, winning the prestigious Education Category in the National Lottery Awards 2018 presented by Katherine Jenkins.

Sixty children from Rhiwbeina Primary School together with 30 older folk who attend the Rhiwbeina Goldies session joined together in song to launch the new project recently.

A project guidance booklet, in both Welsh and English, has been produced by the charity and is available for any school teacher who would like to know more. This, and all queries relating to it, should go to Goldies Cymru Programme Leader Cheryl Davies, [email protected] or call 07860 944410.
