CARDIFF CADETS SING PRAISES OF RAF CONCERT TOUR: THE FINAL CENTENARY SALUTE

10/10/2018

Air Cadets from Penarth, just outside of Cardiff, are preparing to sing the praises of the RAF in Concert tour – the final chance to celebrate RAF100.

Eleven Squadrons from across the country are showing their support for the final RAF centenary salute by selling programmes at their local concert venue.

The concert is among a wide range of exciting events being staged around the UK this year that serve to commemorate and celebrate the Royal Air Force as well as inspire the next generation of Servicemen and women.

The RAF in Concert tour will be the last official event marking the centenary and will feature an entertaining programme of music that showcases the performers’ virtuosity as well as reflecting the modern Royal Air Force of today.

The Cadets will be selling the official Centenary Tour Souvenir Programme at each of the venues for £5.00.

The programme will include a list of the night’s events and exclusive features that celebrate the Royal Air Force’s history – including the 75th anniversary of the Dambusters Raid and the RAF100 salute on 10 July 2018.

There will also be information about the RAF bands, the vocalists, comperes and the RAF Charitable Trust – the charity that the concert tour is staged in support of.

Cadets from 1148 Penarth Squadron are selling programmes at the Cardiff performance which takes place at the Wales Millennium Centre on Friday 19th October where one of their own, Cpl Hannah Adams will be doing a reading.

The concert tour is just one of the many ways in which the squadron have been embracing the RAF100 celebrations. Other centenary tributes have included working with a local glass works to create glass RAF roundel poppies for the shop’s window display and parading in Barry and St Athan.

Cpl Hannah Adams (16) said: “It’s amazing to be part of the cadets in such a big year, there’s been so much going on that won’t happen in anyone else’s lifetime – I feel really lucky”.

Flt Lt Rachel Fowler added, “The RAF is such a British institution and I am so proud to help and be a part of celebrating such a milestone. It’s wonderful to see that the core ethos of the air force is still there and that it’s being passed down to the next generation”.
