Family Prom- “A Night At The Oscars”: Sunday the 19th of July

15/07/2015

attheoscarsGET ready to experience the glitz and glamour of Hollywood as St David’s Hall is transformed into A Night at the Oscars!

The Family Prom (Sunday 19 July, 3pm) is the perfect way to spend quality time with your loved ones on a fun-filled afternoon for all ages.

Join us on this rollercoaster ride along the red carpet as Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra performs the world’s most memorable movie themes.

Make sure to dress up as your favourite film stars, bring your autograph books and smile for the paparazzi! There may even be a visit from Darth Vader and some Stormtroopers too!

Plus, sharing the stage as compère for this special occasion is hilarious BBC Radio Wales presenter and opera singer Wynne Evans!

With Jurassic World being the Box Office smash of the summer, it’s fitting that John Williams’ original theme provides a breathtaking start to the show. Likewise, Williams’ iconic Imperial March from Star Wars is one of the most magical moments of the silver screen, and is very apt with Darth Vader in town!

Equally thrilling is Tchaikovsky’s haunting score to Swan Lake, which is goosebump-inducing as the soundtrack to the greatest romantic ballet of all time. Elsewhere, Disney fans are in for a treat with a beautiful rendition of Under the Stars from The Lion King, whilst the teenager in your family will love The Hanging Tree from The Hunger Games.

There are further legendary pieces from classical music such as Grieg’s captivating In the Hall of the Mountain King, and Verdi’s La Donna è Mobile from Rigoletto – all instantly recognisable and impeccably conducted by the acclaimed Michael Bell.

Don’t miss A Night at the Oscars at St David’s Hall!
