Plumbers, civil engineers, landlords, architects, water engineers, environmental managers, ecologists and site managers are among those being invited to special events providing a taste of free training in the latest sustainability practices.

The free taster sessions take place in Llantrisant, Llanelli, and Llandudno in April and May, and are for anyone in the built environment sector, who lives or works in one of Wales’ Convergence areas.

Built Environment Sustainability Training (BEST) is offering free, flexible training to develop knowledge and skills in the latest sustainability practices – particularly in construction, energy, waste, and water. The BEST programme is supported by the European Social Fund, through the Welsh Government. It offers flexible, subsidised training courses to people who live or work in one of Wales’ Convergence areas.

The half-day taster events include lunch and networking opportunities.

BEST’s training delivery partners including Arup, Project Five Consulting, Energy Saving Trust, Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) and Melin Consultants will be on hand with bite-size examples of the training that is available free of charge to eligible participants in Wales.

“There will be plenty of opportunity to explore what is on offer and to learn more about the courses, which will develop people’s skills, giving their employers a competitive advantage, and providing economic and environmental benefits for Wales,” said Christine Castle, BEST Programme Manager.

“BEST aims to put Wales at the forefront of sustainability expertise,” she added. “This is the ideal opportunity for people to find out how to develop their own skills and be part of that exciting future for the sector.”

The taster sessions will include:

– Water efficiency training

– Building information modelling (BIM)

– Planning for community and neighbourhood-scale renewable energy

– Air tightness and effective moisture management

– Integrated catchment management

– Low carbon leadership

The events will run from 9am – 1pm, as follows:

Thursday April 23rd: Miskin Manor, Llantrisant;

Tuesday April 28th: Venue Cymru, Llandudno;

Thursday May 7th: Ffos Las Racecourse, Llanelli.
