Get fit for Tŷ Hafan with your own personal Marathon in May

28/04/2021

Hafan, the children’s hospice for Wales, is challenging you to improve your fitness  whatever your starting level – by completing 26.2 miles or 55,374 steps during the month of May while raising much needed funds to support children with a life-limiting condition and their families in Wales.

You can do your marathon any way you like from walking, to star jumps, to cycling, to jogging to bouncing on a trampoline – basically anything that involves doing the distance or counting those all-important steps.

And Marathon in May is open to anyone of all ages and abilities making it ideal for anyone wanting something to focus on to improve their fitness after lockdown. In fact, if you really want to, you can do more than one Marathon in May – if you are up for the challenge you can do as many Marathons in May as you like!

Entry is just £13 per person including receiving a finishers T-shirt which will be posted to you the last week of the challenge, or alternatively you can pay just £5 per person to enter without the T-shirt. And if you raise a minimum of £30 in sponsorship you will receive your own commemorative medal.

Last year, Marathon in May 2020 lockdown-style saw the ever-generous people of Wales raise nearly £40,000 for from this challenge alone.

This year, Hafan is asking you once again to put on your trainers and conquer your personal Marathon in May so the hospice can continue to offer the care and support Hafan families so desperately need.

Hafan mum Bridget and her elevenyearold daughter Elain, who has multiple heart conditions, did  Hafan’s Marathon in May last year and raised nearly £10,000 in the process.  Hafan provides vital support for the whole family, including their baby daughter, Martha, offering short break care at the hospice and vital emotional and practical support for Bridget and her family at their home in Aberystwyth.

“Elain loves  HafanIt is a lifeline for us and helps us to create special memories which we’ll cherish forever, says Bridget.

The Marathon in May challenge in 2020 was a great way for us to focus our energy on something positive and active to get through another month of lockdown.

“Elain was gifted a brand-new all-terrain buggy early on in the pandemic. Having this new mode of transport  gives many more options of where to walk and run!

My tips and advice to anyone participating in the challenge this year is to get yourself organised! Plan out your month, set up your fundraising page and blog about your journey.”
