GREY MATTER BEING STRETCHED AT TECHNIQUEST

10/11/2023

Anyone aged 50 or above can experience a child-free visit to the science discovery centre this month, at the next Over-50s’ Science Café.

Tuesday 14 November will see a takeover at Techniquest for those of a more mature vintage than usual, as an adults-only Science Café gets underway from 1pm that day.

The theme will be the marine environment and guests will be treated to a live science show in the Science Theatre, produced with support from the Scottish Power Foundation. ‘Ocean Extravaganza’ has been adapted for adults from the children’s version which ran across the summer holidays, taking a look at the impact climate change is having on our seas, as well as highlighting a host of scientific facts focused on life beneath the waves.

Special guests from Cardiff University, Surfers Against Sewage, Câr-y-Môr and the Sea Trust will be on hand to share their areas of expertise — including ways to protect the marine environment, putting shells under the microscope, and cultivating the ocean floor to produce sustainable Welsh seaweed and shellfish.

Visitors will be able to get to grips with over 100 interactive puzzles, digital tablets and mechanical contraptions that fill the exhibition space, exercising both minds and bodies in a scientific workout.

The Over-50s’ Science Café forms part of a series of events at Techniquest targeted specifically at adults, where no children are allowed, so that the centre can be opened up for even more people to enjoy exploring the world of science and technology.

Tickets cost £5 each and more details can be found at www.techniquest.org.
