We are delighted to announce that hmv Cardiff will be reopening on Friday 1st July in its new location at 41 Queen Street.

Cardiff has always been a very important city for hmv, where we have been trading successfully as the home of entertainment for over thirty years. The original store was opened by Bananarama and Saxon in 1983, and once also hosted a signing by US rock legends Kiss. The store then moved to its second location in 2004, where pop sensations Blue and Girls Aloud officially opened the store.

Since then hmv Cardiff has hosted a huge number of in-store events with performances from the Manic Street Preachers, Katherine Jenkins and You Me At Six and signings from Take That, Joe Calzaghe and recently Bars and Melody where nearly 1000 fans turned out to meet them.

The store is the Welsh flagship store and is one of the biggest stores in terms of space in the hmv estate, supplying the very best range of entertainment products to Wales.  Customers will notice that the new store’s vinyl offer takes a prominent position on the ground floor reflecting the appeal of the format and the impressive selection of new releases and classic re-issue titles.

Store manager Greg Johnson and his team of friendly and knowledgeable staff thank all of our many loyal customers for their patience and support while the new store has been completed and look forward to welcoming everyone to their new home of entertainment.

Greg Johnson comments:

‘’We’ve received a lot of positive feedback from local people about our return to Cardiff, the largest hmv store in Wales. We will be trading across over 12,000 square feet and to celebrate we will be offering a £10 gift card when a customer spends £50 in store.”

HMV chief executive Ian Topping said: “We would like to thank our many loyal customers in Cardiff for their continued enthusiasm and support for the re-opening of their store. We look forward to once again providing the people of Cardiff with the very best in film and music.”
