Research carried out by Novuna Finance shows that the fans of Oasis heading to Cardiff could bring a £100.3 million spending boom with them.

The band’s opening shows at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium this summer will be one of the biggest economic events the city will see this year.

The first leg of the iconic reunion shows are expected to attract around 149,000 fans.

Each concert in Cardiff is forecast to generate a whopping £50.2 million in fan spending, with a net local economic impact of £26.8 million.  This will benefit everything from local pubs and restaurants to hotels, shops, and transport services.

Where the money goes in Cardiff

According to Novuna’s report, fan spending will be spread across several key areas, with much of it flowing into Cardiff’s economy, including:

  • £23.6m on food and drink
  • £23.4m on tickets
  • £20.4m on shopping and leisure throughout the city
  • £17.7m on travel including journeys to and within the host city
  • £10.7m on merchandise
  • £4.5 on accommodation

How spending breaks down across tour legs

Theresa Lindsay, Chief Marketing Officer at Novuna Personal Finance, said:

“Oasis choosing Cardiff to launch their long-awaited reunion tour is a landmark moment, both for the fans and the city. With fans expected to spend over £100 million across the first two nights alone, this is proof that live music powers our cities far beyond the arena gates. It’s a major economic event.”

“From pre-show drinks to overnight stays, this tour will bring life to every corner of the city – and showcase Cardiff’s status as a top-tier live music destination.”

And more boosts for Cardiff’s economic growth include the fabulous Stereophonics, Kendrick Lamar, Catfish and the Bottlemen to name a few.
