Hundreds join WWF to help stop climate chaos

01/12/2015

Wales Climate Action Day on Saturday 28 November saw hundreds of people join us and our Stop Climate Chaos Cymru for our Pedal for the Planet event ahead of the UN’s climate change conference currently taking place in Paris.

Despite the wind and the rain, we were joined by hundreds of people on their bikes, who cycled from Callaghan Square in the city centre, down Lloyd George Avenue, to the Senedd in Cardiff Bay for a rally to call for a fair, global deal on climate action.

During the rally, we heard some extremely passionate speeches from:

  • Haf Elgar, Chair of Stop Climate Chaos Cymru
  • Rally sponsor, Bethan Jenkins AM (Plaid Cymru, South Wales West)
  • Jenny Rathbone AM (Labour, Cardiff Central)
  • Alun Davies AM (Labour, Blaenau Gwent)
  • Eluned Parrott AM (Liberal Democrats, Cardiff Central)
  • William Powell AM (Liberal Democrats, Mid and West Wales)
  • Pippa Bartolotti (Leader, Wales Green Party)
  • David Clubb (Director, RenewableUK Cymru)
  • Elen Jones (National Coordinator, Fair Trade Wales)
  • Chris Roberts (Head of External Affairs, Sustrans Cymru)
  • Rev. Canon Carol Wardman (Bishops’ Adviser for Church and Society)
  • Huw Thomas (Head, Christian Aid Wales)

And the crowd was kept entertained by:

  • Our event compère, Dan Mitchell
  • Activists’ choir Côr Cochion
  • Rapper and former Children’s Poet of Wales Aneirin Karadog
  • The poet Eric Charles
  • Up-and-coming Carmarthen singer-songwriter Asher Storm
  • Community singers Sisters on the Shore

Thank you to everyone who joined us on the day to show that Wales supports the calls for a fair, global deal on climate action!
