St David’s Hall

Tuesday 31 May

8pm

ICONIC British singer-songwriter Martin Carthy will share the stage with his daughter Eliza Carthy in the ultimate concert for all folk fans at St David’s Hall on Tuesday 31 May.

Martin is a legendary ballad singer and ground-breaking guitarist, who played an integral part in the revolution that changed folk music forever throughout the 60s. Five decades later his approach to his art lacks none of the fervour of those early days.

As a youngster, Martin was first motivated to pick up his father’s old guitar after hearing Lonnie Donegan. Since then he’s continually captivated audiences with his own magical music, and was deservedly awarded a MBE in 1998. He’s also inspired some of the greats including Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and Richard Thompson.

Likewise, Eliza is undoubtedly one of the most impressive and engaging performers of her generation. Throughout a 20-year career, she’s been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize twice and is a multiple-award winner at the BBC Radio Two Folk awards.

Together they will perform material that includes songs from their critically acclaimed first duo album The Moral of The Elephant, plus a sprinkling of other favourites in the L3 Lounge from 8pm.

Share an evening in the company of two genuine greats of folk as part of the Roots Unearthed series at St David’s Hall.

“(Martin Carthy is)…arguably the greatest English folk song performer, writer, collector and editor of them all” Q

“Eliza Carthy is one of the figureheads of the English folk revival…compelling” Evening Standard
