Old Havana Bar Review

03/02/2019

Another Cuban bar? Another cocktail bar? Yes! But the new OLD HAVANA cocktail bar and restaurant has a cool new vibe with an authentic Cuban twist. Set on High street in Cardiff city centre it brings an exciting addition to the flourishing castle quarter. The area has really developed in recent times and is quickly becoming a Cardiff nightlife hotspot. This is the second Old Havana bar and restaurant to open as there is already one in Swansea.

The inside space is great, it can accommodate over two hundred people, with plenty of seating. There’s even an iconic Cadillac displayed as you enter the bar, how cool!! The use of glass and beautiful mahogany wood really empathises the traditional Cuban theme with a contemporary touch. The tan leather seats and bare brick walls again enhance the Cuban feel. The decor really adds to the authenticity of the venue. I loved the lively Caribbean vibes and would definitely celebrate a special occasion there, for a fun filled day or evening. There’s even a dance floor if you’re feeling adventurous!! Cuban culture encourages this so let the inner show person out.

The bar tenders were extremely knowledgeable and had a passion for cocktail making which is crucial to the whole customer experience. Their cocktail pitchers are great to share with friends or family and to help you unwind in the really hip surroundings. Their classic Daiquiri was an exotic explosion along with their invigorating Mojito’s. Something that really dazzled me was their 341 on Mojito’s and Daiquiri’s, YES you read right!! This is something truly unique and runs from 4-8pm 7 days a week!! Things could get funky but please drink responsibly of course.

Their Cuban classics cocktail section is superb and alluring. They also offer more traditional cocktails to cater for all tastes. It’s worth mentioning their ‘ENERJITO’, which adds an interesting twist to the traditional Mojito as they add tropical red bull instead of soda water. Its ideal for an after work or post shopping energy boost.

They have an inspiring food menu that offers some classic Cuban dishes along with lighter bites. We sampled some of their small plate offerings and found them to be extremely tasty.  I would recommend their meat or veggie sharing platters, which are a good way to get a taste of their delicious offerings. The big plates section is really appealing and has some original Cuban dishes.

Old Havana is open now and will excite you in all the right ways. It’s open 7 days a week from 11:30 until late. Food is served from midday until 10pm. Make a visit for a truly authentic Cuban fusion experience.

Here at Old Havana we pride ourselves on bringing only the best and freshest food infusions & Cuban dining in the most vibrant and authentic surroundings”  -Old Havana team
