November 7th is the date of the first Sip & Swig drinks festival, which will be held at the Roath Church House in Penylan, Cardiff. A collaborative effort between local businesses, The Bottle Shop and The Italian Wine Women, this festival will give you the chance to try all sorts of new and wonderful things whilst challenging your preconceptions, and all in time for the festive season!

Sustainability and artisanal practices are something we now hear a lot about in food and drink, with people increasingly insistent on fewer additives, less intervention and greater workmanship when it comes to what they consume. Sip & Swig aims at getting people to think about the wine they drink, to discover what goes into it and how to get real value for money – and there is no better way to do this than trying it for yourself. Alongside the wines and spirits on taste from The Italian Wine Women and The Bottle Shop, local favourites Crafty Devil Brewery will also be showcasing their outstanding beers. Masterclasses will be held throughout the day on Cheese and Wine Pairing, Spirits, and Christmas Fizz. However, spaces for these will be limited so you will need to book up quick! Tickets for the event itself (£10) are now on sale online at Eventbrite and at The Bottle Shops. Masterclasses can be booked in the same way, or by contacting the organisers directly.

The event, running from 3pm until 9pm, will also feature food from The Penylan Pantry with other delicious treats to be announced, and there will be a kids’ area, featuring the amazing Kid’s Construction Company (until 6.30pm) so that they can enjoy themselves too. You will receive a tasting glass and 6 tokens with your ticket, which can be used for tasters or to purchase food from any of the vendors. Additional tokens will be on sale on the day, as will all of the drinks on taste. Special discounts will be available on the day, along with free Cardiff delivery, making it a great opportunity for getting your drinks cupboard stocked in time for December.
