Spire Cardiff Hospital has donated food worth over £778 to Cardiff foodbank, to help those most in need for 2021

Colleagues at the hospital, which has been helping the NHS in tackling the pandemic, raised £528.70. A Christmas jumper day, raffle and cake sale helped raise these funds with a further £250 donated by the company. Spire’s food supply partner Bidfood then supplemented this with a generous donation of food. This means that food worth significantly more than £778 has been donated to Cardiff foodbank.

Cardiff foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust network. The Trussell Trust supports more than 1,200 food bank centres in the UK to provide a minimum of three days’ nutritionally-balanced emergency food to people who have been referred in crisis.

Spire Cardiff’s donation is part of a larger initiative, in which each of Spire’s 39 hospitals across the UK has been supporting their local Trussell Trust foodbanks.

Fiona Conway, Hospital Director, said: “The past year has been a challenging for so many people and I’m pleased that we’ve been able to play our part in meeting the increased demand for support for Cardiff foodbank. We’re very grateful that our partners Bidfood have been so generous in providing additional support to help those in need too.

“Our team at Spire Cardiff are already superstars, because of the role they’ve played in supporting the NHS and caring for patients during the pandemic, and I’m really proud of this great generosity for such a worthwhile cause.”
