The sun will continue to shine at Cardiff’s New Theatre over the summer. Audiences will be transported to Greece from Tuesday 27 June – Saturday 1 July for the heart-warming and delightful comedy play Shirley Valentine by Willy Russell, starring Jodie Prenger.
Then we head to the States for “the world’s most successful rock and roll musical” – Buddy, The Buddy Holly Story. The multi award winning West End show charts Buddy’s meteoric rise to fame to his legendary final performance. Catch two hours of feel-great music, passion and excitement from Tuesday 4 – Saturday 8 July.
For young people and their families you’re invited to explore amongst the thorny brambles on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 July to find Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom – a brand new live stage version of the BAFTA award-winning television animation. It’s a beautiful story of elves, princesses and childhood innocence that will delight you.
Then come back at the end of the school holidays for a stroll with Mouse through the deep dark wood in the magical, musical adaptation of Julie Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s The Gruffalo. It’s marvellous scary fun for children aged 3 plus and it’s with us from Thursday 31 August – Saturday 1 September.
Also during the holiday period we’ll be welcoming Joe McElderry on Thursday 20 July who will be celebrating the release of his fifth studio album Saturday Night at the Movies in a special concert also featuring X Factor‘s Lloyd Daniels and Any Dream Will Do runners up Keith Jack and Ben James-Ellis.
Plus we’ll be opening up the back stage areas for special behind-the-scenes tours of our beautiful Grade II listed theatre on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 July.
