Wales held off the challenge of Scotland and Ireland to take the honours in the 2015 Home Nations Tennis Championship in Glasgow. The competition, played across 18U, 14U, and 12U age groups, between Scotland, Ireland and Wales, went to the final round of matches to determine the winner. Women in South Wales are being invited to get on court for Tennis Tuesday – part of a drive to encourage more female players. Tennis Tuesday is part of a Britain-wide Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) initiative being trialled in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan by Tennis Wales. The Wales women’s over-35s team defeated England, Scotland and Ireland to win the Four Nations title at the Bolton Arena. The team comprised Ellen Jones, of the XL Academy/ Cardiff Metropolitan University; Linda Jones, who is a coach at David Lloyd, Finchley; and Carys Rees, a coach at Abergavenny. Aspiring Welsh tennis players enjoyed success in early pre-season tournaments nationally and internationally across various age groups. At the International Tennis Federation (ITF) event in Malta, Welsh U18s had a week to remember.
