Children around Wales are being offered free coaching as part of the legacy of Great Britain’s victory in the Davis Cup.

A total of 38 courses under the Tennis for Kids programme are taking place in North, South, and Mid Wales during the summer.

Details vary from club to club, but generally involve six free, fun sessions with an expert coach; a free racket to keep, if you attend regularly; the chance for parents or guardians to get involved; and the opportunity to continue at the venue once the course is finished.

Courses are being offered at the following South Wales venues: Chepstow TC, Cardiff City House of Sport, Barry Athletic TC, Swansea Tennis and Squash Club, David Lloyd Cardiff, Penarth LTC, Whitchurch TC, Cowbridge Tennis Centre, Penarth Windsor LTC, Allt-yr-yn LTC, Rhiwbina TC, Mackintosh LTC, Barry Community TC, Abergavenny TC, Monmouth Leisure Centre, Dinas Powys TC, Llantrisant TC, Llanelli Tennis & Squash Club.

Courses are also at the following Mid Wales venues: Brecon TC, Newtown TC.

They are also offered at the following North Wales venues: Ruthin LTC, Wrexham Tennis Centre, Pen-y-ffordd Tennis Centre, Craig-y-Don Community TC, Arfon Tennis Centre, Rhos on Sea, James Alexander Barr Tennis Centre, Mold TC.

Some courses are fully booked, but waiting lists are being operated.

“We have had a lot of success in enthusing kids about tennis, but Tennis for Kids takes this a step further, with a free programme to get even more youngsters involved,” said Tennis Wales chief executive, Peter Drew.

“What better legacy for Team GB’s Davis Cup victory than to enthuse a new generation of players?”

People of any age wanting to try tennis are being encouraged to “Go Hit It” – by visiting www.gohitit.com to find a local venue where they can play.
