THE ROAD LESS TRAVELLED?

You may know `Inroads` for the incredible work it does in offering support, guidance and activities for those affected by substance use/misuse in Cardiff, whether it be first hand or as family/friends. Since its launch in 1996 it has helped over 14,000 clients by providing a friendly information service, non-judgmental assistance and an understanding harm reduction ethos.

However, what you may be less knowledgeable of is their quest to assist ‘wellbeing for all’! They do this through a range of courses they offer to their community, and as Francis Bacon once said, “knowledge is power”, so let me enlighten you about Inroads and allow you to access another route to the power of learning!

I actually only discovered Inroads myself through a free Cardiff Met course which ran there last year, community philosophy. My experience was enough to make me think highly of the charity – from a wonderfully warm friendly welcome from the staff, to a convenient location to the central train/bus station, excellent facilities and a spacious room, it definitely put inroads on my map! I am keen to encourage others to explore it too!

All of Inroads activities and groups are open to the community and there is no shortage of variety… if you want to learn sewing skills, improve your cookery, increase confidence with computers, spend time enjoying arts and crafts or just add some social element to your life, Inroads may have the answer!

There are plenty of benefits of joining a course – it might help build your confidence, allow opportunities to meet new people, give you a purposeful use of time, increase your skills for future occupations or just allow you to enjoy some ‘free’ time.

Sadly, as with many things, Inroads charity is facing budget cuts which could leave hundreds of its service users without an essential lifeline to a better lifestyle.  By attending the courses and ensuring the centre is being used, the charity can hopefully show that every penny spent on it is worthwhile!

So, don’t delay- log on or phone to find out how Inroads can get you ‘on a new track.’
