Welsh National Opera Orchestra Family Concert

11/03/2016

Hosted by Wynne Evans
St David’s Hall
Sunday 20 March
3pm

THE Welsh National Opera Orchestra will perform their first ever Family Concert at St David’s Hall on Sunday 20 March with an action-packed afternoon hosted by BBC Radio Wales presenter Wynne Evans.

Plus, you may even get the chance to have your pic taken with the Welsh tenor before the show in his alter-ego guise as Gio Compario off the Go Compare ads!

This concert is the perfect introduction to opera and a great occasion for the entire family to enjoy music they know and love as well as hear something new. Wynne will explain how opera has grown over the centuries and how it brings stories to life using drama, powerful singing, a full orchestra, costume, sets and all things theatrical.

Audience members are encouraged to arrive from 1pm onwards to join in a treasure hunt and other fun activities, and meet Gio himself! Ticket holders will also have the chance to join the team from WNO’s wig, costume and props departments who will share their behind-the-scenes magic on what goes into an operatic production.

Wynne has selected some of the most famous opera masterpieces as well as new classics from film and TV including Star Wars, James Bond and Frozen, plus opera favourites from William Tell, Carmen, The Pearl Fishers and more.

There will an opportunity for some of the audience to get up close with the musicians and join the conductor at his podium for a unique conducting experience and sing-along with Wynne. WNO’s own Youth Opera and local Schools Choir will also be performing a special Roald Dahl music piece to celebrate the Cardiff-born storyteller’s 100th birthday.

This inclusive and relaxed show is the perfect way for families to spend a musical Sunday afternoon together whether they are aged 3 or 93!
Tickets are priced £10 & £15 for adults and £5 for children (aged 5-16). Under 5s are free.
(All prices are subject to an additional £2.95 Ticket Service Charge per transaction and an optional 95p postage fee).
