Yacht Tacktic, sponsored by Associated British Ports (ABP), has successfully competed in the Rolex Fastnet Race  to raise money for the Jubilee Sailing Trust.

The race started at Cowes on Sunday 6th August and finished at Plymouth in the early hours of Thursday 10th August. Yacht Tacktic was at sea for a total of 4 days, 16 hours, and 39 mins. The race saw the crew sail around the Fastnet Rock, south west of Ireland, and covered a total distance of over 600 nautical miles.

Yacht Tacktic is owned and skippered by Dan Rigden, a friend and colleague of Callum Couper, ABP Port Manager for Cardiff and Barry, who is part of the Yacht Tacktic team. The Yacht has a crew of seven people who all work in the maritime sector. The team are currently on track to raise over £10,000 for the Jubilee Sailing Trust.

ABP were the main sponsor of the team to help support their efforts in raising money for the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST). JST was selected by the team as their chosen charity as it is a well established charity that provides sail training for able-bodied and disabled people on board its two tall-masted ships Lord Nelson and Tenacious.

Duncan Souster, CEO of the Jubilee Sailing Trust, said: “ On behalf of the Trustees, staff and beneficiaries of The Jubilee Sailing Trust we would like to thank Callum Couper, ABP’s Port Manager for the Ports of Cardiff and Barry, the skipper and crew of Yacht “Tacktic” and ABP for their continuing support. The global context for our mission has never been more exciting and we have a tremendous opportunity to play a much more powerful, influential role on a range of inclusion issues, both domestically and further afield. ABP have been an outstanding and generous partner to the Jubilee Sailing Trust over many years and we are tremendously grateful for their continued support.”

Callum Couper, ABP Port Manager Cardiff and Barry, said “It was a tough race with a 300 mile beat to windward out to Fastnet Rock but the crew enjoyed their challenge immensely and raising funds for Jubilee Sailing Trust added greater determination and effort to complete the race safely and professionally. ABP is very pleased to see the support that its customers, suppliers, employees, friends and other stakeholders have all provided to making this years’ fundraiser a great success.”
