Tim Wynne reviews the Welsh Winners from the 2018 Great Taste Food Awards at St David’s Hotel I’ve often thought about what it might take to eat my way around an entire country. Luckily for me the cabinet secretary for Energy, Planning and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths AM, had the same idea. Also luckily for us, for convenience, she decided to make the best of Welsh Entries into the 2018 Great Taste Awards right at home in Cardiff Bay’s St…

Thomasina Myers’ Mexican chain, Wahaca, have kicked off their weeklong celebration of Dia de los Muertos – the Mexican Day of the Dead. An insistent ‘celebration of life’, a slogan that adorns the walls, the custom menus, and the memory wall on which you can commemorate your loved ones, this is by no means a morbid event – and we went along to check it out. To mark this Mexican festival, Wahaca have not just hung bright banners and customised…

We recently had the pleasure of visiting Carluccio’s in Cardiff Bay. We were instantly greeted with a warm welcome by Clare, who was the manager on shift that day.  She kindly showed us to our table and left us with menus to browse over. Carluccio’s is located close to the Bay and there’s plenty of glass windows surrounding the building, combining the feeling you are outdoors with the comfort of being inside. Good job, too, as it was hammering…

We recently visited Pizza Express at St David’s 2 and were greeted by Bianca. She was super friendly, took our drinks order and had a little chat with the children. As she is studying at Cardiff University, we wished her all the best with her future endeavours. Bianca took the children’s order for starters: ‘dough balls’, and as always they ate every single item on their plate.   As for the adults, we saved ourselves for the main course. We…

We recently visited Strada and were greeted by friendly staff who kindly asked where we would prefer to sit.  We chose to sit inside, being as it looked a little cosier. The décor was modern and sophisticated with a warm Mediterranean feel to it, with images and messages on the walls spelling out the love of food for me.  The restaurant felt alive and made me want to be part of it. Once seated, we were given menus and…
