Disabled people from all over Wales have waltzed into 2020 for Strictly Cymru – the country’s renowned inclusive dance competition. Run by charity Leonard Cheshire, in partnership with the national governing body Paradance UK, the competition has seen dancers in both inclusive and wheelchair-specific categories compete in six heats across South Wales, in preparation for the grand final on 6 June. Wales’ first fully inclusive dance event– Strictly Cymru – is set to hit Cardiff for a dance-off next week. This will be the last regional heat of the competition, after which the 12 finalists will go to the Grand Final in Caernarfon on 11 May. Competitors will go head-to-head on 18 and 19 March at the Sports Wales National Centre in Cardiff. Disabled people in Wales are set to benefit from a new way of receiving social care, thanks to a scheme being officially rolled out across the country. The ‘Together as One’ project, launched by the disability charity Leonard Cheshire, will offer people who receive social care the option to take part in shared social and sporting activities with other disabled people living locally.
