Photo credit: Huw John   By James Lee   I was so chuffed I managed to secure myself a ticket to Pixie Perez – Confessions of a Drag Queen, as this three night sell out showcase at the Wales Millennium Centre’s Ffresh Cabaret Bar was a triumph! Pixie had the enthusiastic audience in the palm of her perfectly manicured hands from the get go. With a hilarious voice over opening that had the room in fits of laughter even before…

Tight Fit is one of my guilty pleasures from the early eighties.  Who can forget their classic hit ‘The Lion Sleeps tonight’ and the rippling muscles of model and lead singer Steve Grant?  But the story starts even before then when record producer Ken Gold decided to record a medley of 60’s songs called ‘Back to the 60s’ to capitalize on the success of the ‘Stars of 45’ concept, which was so big in 1981.  He put together some…

The musical, Club Tropicana, has now finished its run with the final week having just ended at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff.   Everyone enjoys a wedding and the show ends with two couples getting hitched. The younger couple, ‘Olly’ (played by Cellen Chugg Jones) and ‘Lorraine’ (played by Karina Hind) have been impressing audiences with their acting chemistry and astonishing vocal ability.  Casting Directors should take note of these two actors for ‘young couple’ roles in future.  (Dare I…

The Welsh National Opera got its summer season ‘FREEDOM’ off to an explosive start at Wales Millennium Centre with its production of Dead Man Walking. With music by Jake Heggie, the opera follows the work of nun: Sister Helen Prejean as she works with death row prisoner Joseph De Rocher who has been convicted of the rape and murder of a teenage couple. Set in Louisiana in 1980’s, there are many themes raised in the opera, through emotional and sometimes…

Between 27 May and 1 June, over 10,000 children will be heading to the Red Dragon Centre, where they will use the centre’s facilities for rehearsals and preliminary rounds during the annual Urdd National Eisteddfod.   The Urdd National Eisteddfod has become one of Europe’s most prominent youth touring festivals.
